No, there is an arbitration mechanism for the memory
so the CPU will be able to access the memory while the
DMA is running.

Another DMA question:
If I do a large but _slow_ dma transfer to a pheripheral interface, 
will this block cpu from accessing memory. I.e. will my system halt 
until dma transfer is complete?
