cannot create MTD RAM device, parital line at end ...

I'm happy holding my first etrax dev board in my hands, but
problems have already started:

I have installed the latest kernel + patch (2.4.19) plus
cris-dist-1.25-1 and devboard_lxR2_1_0.tgz.

Kernel compiles without error, flash images are created. But when
I try to boot the image via network (./ktest) the kernel output
on boot time says:

cannot create MTD RAM device due to (mis)configuration of kernel.
This kernel cannot boot from RAM.

This message seems ok to me, because in kernelconfig.lates (.config)
is no MTD RAM driver enabled. When I enable MTD RAM support and
trying to compile the kernel I get the following error output:

/usr/local/cris/lib/gcc-lib/cris/2.96/gcc -D__KERNEL__
-I/home/norbert/ETRAX/linux-2.4.19-cris/include -Wall
-Wstrict-prototypes -Wno-trigraphs -O2 -fno-strict-aliasing -fno-common
-fomit-frame-pointer -mlinux -pipe -nostdinc -I
-DKBUILD_BASENAME=tcp_input -c -o tcp_input.o tcp_input.c
{standard input}: Assembler messages:

This seems to me like a compiler bug ...

Any suggestions about this ?
