RE: user-mode JFFS version
Actually, I have the 2.0 sources running in user-mode. However, I'm only
running the vfs, jffs and enough block driver code to to use jffs. Anything
not needed from the rest of the kernel was stubbed out.

For the 2.4 case take a look at usermode linux. UML runs an entire Linux
as a set of threads on linux/x86.
