You can do that if you like. The partitioning stuff is fairly much separate 
from the real MTD layer. You just have wrapper functions which add an 
offset to the requested address and pass the request through to the 
original MTD driver. 

If you're thinking of skipping a memory range that's in the middle of the 
flash because you have aliases of flash chips in the memory map, then 
that's already handled by the chip drivers.
