Basic JFFS usage questions

I am using the linux-2_4-branch of fs/jffs on a 2.4.0-test11-rmk1-np3
kernel. The system uses standard Intel Flash chips using the mtd drivers.
I have the following questions:

1) is this a valid configuration and should this work?
2) when I delete files out of the jffs partition, the disk space never seems
be be reclaimed.
3) files put on the partition with a simple copy seem to take way more space
than they should.

The following is the log. I would appreciate any suggestions.
Cliff
